Falconry

falcon

Falconry is a new attraction this year and is performed by Falconry-days. There are two displays a day and during the displays you will expect to see the falconers explain some of the history of falconry, the methods they use to train their birds and a little about the birds they have with them. As time goes on, the crowd will have the opportunity of seeing Harris Hawks in flight… maybe even to their own fist. The Falcons then take to the air using the wind and the natural lift to gain height as the falconer swings the “lure.” Each pass can bring the bird within a foot of the crowd as she shows her grace and agility whilst trying to outwit the falconer – before finally hitting the lure and making her “kill”. Overall an incredibly exciting display taking place twice a day in the attractions arena, make sure you're there!

Side Saddle Display

Far from being a relic from the past, the art of side-saddle is enjoying a renaissance, along with the vogue for all things vintage. Detractors may say it is disempowering, but historically it was just about the only time women could take on men at their own game, galloping across country with courage and elegance on their side saddles when riding astride was considered unseemly for ladies.  The art is all about stylish, inspiring women, and the ultimate role model must be Her Majesty the Queen, riding side-saddle at Trooping the Colour in her smart uniform and red lipstick.
